Iron Bridge Athlete: Chris Hooley

What was your fitness background and what brought you to Iron Bridge CrossFit?

I've loved to play sports all my life and played baseball at the collegiate level. I continue to enjoy anything competitive including rec sports, lifting, running, ToughMudder, you name it. A while back my workplace went through a building renovation project. During that time our gym and locker rooms were unavailable and so I lost my place to workout. I wanted to try something different, and so I called a few CrossFit places, and decided on IronBridge. I thought I would be there for the 3 months until our facility reopened...it's been about a year and a half now.

How has CrossFit improved your life outside the gym?

Being a father of 2 toddlers, there is zero downtime. I've always been interested in how health & fitness can help me get more out of my body. Crossfit and the Paleo challenges we've gone through have taught me more and more each time. I'd say that I've learned more about how to maximize myself in the time I've been at IBCF than I have the rest of my life.

What has been your favorite moment at IBCF?

Definitely not when I flew off the bar trying to learn the kipping pullup and landed on my back and couldn't walk for a week...and definitely not when I crushed my nose doing push presses the last time we did DT...maybe when I deadlifted more than Beth a few weeks ago :)

WODs and Movements - what are your favorites and what makes your palms sweat?

I like wallballs & squats I hate snatches & overhead squats.....

One piece of advice for someone new to CrossFit

Commit to a Paleo [Cross the Bridge] Challenge to see how much you can learn about yourself.

What keeps you going in a WOD when your mind is telling you to stop?

A competitive spirit & loud coaches.

Anything else you'd like to add.

Thank you Keith & Beth for building a great community, with great coaches! I love being a part of IBCF, and appreciate that you guys push us to our limits. Thank you for teaching us how to do so safely, and for teaching us principles for complete and longlasting wellness.

Must do in Charleston

Being from Indiana, I say the beach. The sound of the crashing waves always makes me feel like I'm 1000 miles away from responsibility...the beach followed by a ribeye at Halls Chophouse for sure.
