Gym News and Updates

Iron Bridge Athlete - Craig McAdams

What was your fitness background and what brought you to Iron Bridge CrossFit?

My fitness background includes soccer, competitive swimming, and distance running. I swam in the Junior Olympic program. I found Iron Bridge after searching for the right fit locally. I heard about it from a guy at Pivotal Fitness.

How has CrossFit improved your life inside and outside the gym?

I have battled Achalasia (esophagus disorder) for my whole life and endured several surgeries and procedures. My focus has shifted from nursing my body and health to improving my body and health. I have embraced the philosophy whole heartedly. Also, hearing my wife say, "I think I can see your abs" was a bonus. This place really does mean a lot to me.

What has been your favorite moment at IBCF?

There have been some good milestones for me, but I think stringing together my first double unders and getting kipping pull-ups are at the top of the list.

WODs and Movements - what are your favorites and what makes your palms sweat?

I love double unders! There was that time I did Annie for 8 days in a row because I thought it was a good warmup....my ankle still hurts. Snatches are the worst.

One piece of advice for someone new to CrossFit

Pick a schedule of days that you can make it to class and stay consistent. The more you go the easier it gets! Also, don't waste your hard work or time in the box by eating garbage at home. Eat clean, train dirty!

What keeps you going in a WOD when your mind is telling you to stop?

I usually will pick someone in class who is ahead of me in the WOD and try to catch up. There are usually lots to choose from!

Anything else you'd like to add

Iron Bridge has the best coaching staff around! Seriously, no comparison.

Must do in Charleston

Leave Charleston for a long weekend in the mountains! It's hot here.
